SABERS is a Motorola P25 digital 800 MHz trunking system that will serve both Townships public safety.
The Communications division of Austintown Township currently employs 8 full-time dispatchers. At any particular time there may be one or two Dispatchers on duty to simultaneously handle all the duties.
Dispatchers respond to calls from 25 different lines, averaging 58,500 calls per year. They prioritize and relay information to Fire, Police, and EMS, as well as monitor 16 radio stations, and 18 video cameras inside and outside the police station.

The APD has a total of 39 sworn personnel, including detectives with 11 active patrol cars.
There are 5 Divisions to the Austintown Police Department:
1. Administration- Chief of Police Robert Gavalier and Captain Bryan Kloss follow commands from the Board of Trustees and the Township Administrator
2. Communications- Dispatch Supervisor and 7 Dispatchers answer emergency and non-emergency calls and send Police, Fire, and EMS
3. Detective- consists of (6) Detectives assigned to various adult crimes ranging from Identity theft to Homicide, two (2) Detectives assigned to investigate Juvenile crimes, two (2) Detectives assigned to narcotics thru the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force and (1) Detective assigned to DARE and Crime Prevention
4. Patrol- 24/7: compromised of three separate eight hour shifts consisting of Six Patrol Officers, two Sergeants, and a Lieutenant; enforcing Township Resolutions and State Laws. They also have two (2) State and North American Police Work Dog Association certified Patrol and Narcotic canines
5. Support Services- employ a Chief's Secretary and 2 records secretaries to: (1) computer entry of arrests, warrants and case information, (2) word processing, (3) filing and maintaining records, (4) respond to telephone/public contacts, (5) process fingerprint cards, (6) process seized license plates/driver licenses, (7) file traffic citations/accidents, (8) maintain record security and (9) produce correspondence for administration

Our police department uses the DARE, Drug Take Back Programs and Vacation Checks to help keep the community informed and safe. We have 2 K-9 dogs to help our patrolman enforce the law. The Austintown Police Department's Website has a link for "crime mapping" in our area. There are community resources for Shelter, Violence, and Rape in Youngstown. The Mahoning County EMS trains and updates their information regularly with our local firefighters and paramedics to prepare to handle any emergency.
